Transport strikes in Italy: what to know

In Italy, train, bus, metro and air strikes do not appear out of nowhere. Law 146/1990 requires unions to give at least ten days’ notice, state the duration and hours, and guarantee minimum service: guaranteed bands on buses and metro, a list of guaranteed trains, and protected flights in the 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 bands.

Every strike call is filed on the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s strike dashboard. C’è Sciopero builds on that official data to show you today’s and upcoming strikes by sector, region and operator — Trenitalia, Italo, Trenord, ATM, ATAC and other local companies — and to warn you before your journey falls through.

Knowing the date is only half the job. The other half is working out whether the strike really affects your route, which services stay guaranteed, and what you are owed if your journey is cancelled. The guides below answer those questions.
